As
a member of Fikus, Paul has come back to the jazz and jazz/fusion genres he
likes best. A Massachusetts native, graduate of Berklee College of Music, and a
musician for over 30 years, Paul has performed in bands of all kinds and styles
up and down the eastern seaboard. Rock/Pop bands have included Secret
Function, an original 80's band, and Cheredovanie, an original,
contemporary Russian rock band. He has also plied his trade among GB bands
including One Step Ahead and gigs on The Spirit of Boston as well
as haunting a few orchestra pits for some of the local community theater groups.
Jazz gigs include stints with the Kenny Hadley big band, the Fusion
Clowns and most recently, the Fabrizi/Kern Project. Although Tenor
and Alto Sax is Paul's main focus these days, he also dabbles in vocals, flute
and clarinet.
"I would like to think my playing shows the modern influences of some of
my favorite artists including Michael Brecker, Bob Berg, Peter Christlieb and
Wayne Shorter. I also feel the pull of the jazz greats such as Charlie Parker,
John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins. I work to find my own voice based on my
experience and the work of these and other great players of all kinds of
instruments. Fikus is a great band for that. We play high energy, thought
provoking jazz. Come out and see for yourself."
